"Detective Conan" Movie Breaks 12.8 Billion Yen in One Month Since Release, Up 800 Million Yen from Last Week
The latest box office update for the 27th installment of the animated film series "Detective Conan," titled "Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram" (released on April 12), has been announced. In the 31 days since its release, the movie has attracted 8.98 million viewers and grossed over 12.8 billion yen (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha).
This week's attendance rankings show that over a three-day weekend, the film attracted 362,000 viewers and earned 534 million yen, maintaining its top spot for the fifth consecutive week.
"Detective Conan" follows high school detective Shinichi Kudo, who, after being forced to ingest a poison by a mysterious group in black, transforms into a child and assumes the name Conan Edogawa. He continues to pursue the shadowy organization while solving various challenging cases. The original manga series began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" in 1994, with the TV anime starting in 1996 and the first film released in 1997. It has since continued as a nationally beloved series. The latest film opened with 630,000 attendees and box office revenue of 960 million yen on its first day. Distributed by Toho, the movie achieved 112% of the revenue of its predecessor, "Detective Conan: The Iron Submarine" (released on April 14, 2023, with a total gross of 13.88 billion yen), marking a mega-hit start with aims to set a new series record.
The plot of the new movie is set in Hakodate, where Heiji Hattori and the elusive thief Kaito Kid clash. This story unfolds with Heiji, who repeatedly misses opportunities to confess his feelings to Kazuha, facing his fated rival, Kid. There is a past incident involving Kid, disguised as Kazuha, nearly kissing Heiji during a case involving the "Conch Pearl: Fairy's Lips."
Will Heiji be able to return the favor and finally confess his feelings to Kazuha in this latest installment? Watching over Heiji and Kazuha are Beni Ooka, Muga Iori, and Sōji Okita.
