Blue Lock's Egoistic Cherry Blossom campaign Extends to Canada with Display at Yonge-Dundas Square Until May 4
Blue Lock, the hit manga series, is celebrating the sakura season with a special advertising campaign that has now been extended to Canada. The campaign, which started on March 25, will be displayed at the bustling intersection of Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto until May 4.
The Blue Lock sakura campaign originally launched in Japan, aligning with the cherry blossom season across the country. Beginning in Fukuoka on March 25 and concluding in Sapporo on April 27, the campaign featured characters from the series offering "Egoistic New Life Tips" in refreshing visual ads tailored to students, working professionals, and regional audiences.
In Canada, cities like Vancouver and Victoria—home to long-standing Japanese communities—are renowned for their cherry blossoms, with Vancouver alone boasting over 40,000 trees. With sakura reaching full bloom between early April and May across Canada, and given the strong fanbase for Blue Lock, the decision was made to extend the campaign overseas.
Each region-specific visual featuring characters and unique quotes is available on the official Weekly Shonen Magazine website. The campaign art varies based on student life, working life, and regional characteristics, emphasizing the spirited message of ego and individuality that defines Blue Lock.
About Blue Lock
Blue Lock is based on the manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. It tells the story of a national high school soccer project launched by Japan following their defeat in the Soccer World Cup, aiming to create a forward player with "overwhelming egoism." The project gathers 300 high school soccer players—all forwards—where 299 will have to give up their soccer dreams for one to emerge as a revolutionary striker who can change the future of Japanese soccer.
The manga has surpassed 40 million copies in circulation, and the first season of the TV anime aired from October 2022 to March 2023.
