Voice Actor Kiyoyuki Yanada Passes Away, Reported by Mitsuaki Madono; Known for Roles such as Akagi in "SLAM DUNK" and Zabine Chareux in "Gundam F91"
Voice actor Kiyoyuki Yanada, known for his role as Takenori Akagi in the anime "SLAM DUNK," has passed away, reported by his close friend Mitsuaki Madono via Twitter on the 21st.
Madono stated, "My friend Kiyoyuki Yanada has passed away," and explained, "As he was a freelancer, at the request of his wife, I am reporting this on behalf of voice acting industry colleagues and his fans." He continued, "Even after offering incense and mourning him, it is unbelievable, but I sincerely pray for his soul."
Born in 1965, Yanada began his career after graduating from Tokyo's Aoni Juku, making his debut in 1988 with roles such as Shutendouji, the Ogre Demon General in "Ronin Warriors." In addition to playing Gori a.k.a. Takenori Akagi in "SLAM DUNK," he was known for his roles as Tessai Tsukabishi in "BLEACH," Ryo-shihan in "Jungle King Tar-chan," and Horkins in "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai," among others.
Renowned for his deep voice, Yanada also portrayed Zabine Chareux in "Mobile Suit Gundam F91" and Nappa in "Dragon Ball GT." He was also active in video games, foreign film dubbing, and voicing characters in tokusatsu series.
