The "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" series, which first aired from October 2002, was the first Gundam TV series of the 21st century, featuring a total of 50 episodes. The story involves a war between genetically modified humans (Coordinators) and natural humans (Naturals), represented by the military organizations ZAFT and the Earth Alliance. Through this conflict, the series portrays the struggles and growth of Kira Yamato, the Coordinator protagonist. It gained a diverse fan base, including a significant number of female viewers, and reached a peak viewership of 8.0%. It also sparked a second Gundam model kit boom among elementary school students, making it a landmark "new generation Gundam series." The sequel, "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY," aired from October 2004 and surpassed the previous series with a peak viewership of 8.2%, with the series' total package sales exceeding 4 million, making it a highly popular series that transcended the boundaries of TV anime with its music and events. The story of the completely new film "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM" continues as a sequel to "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY," unfolding a new story in a world where the battle continues, featuring Kira, Athrun, and Shinn.
