Adapted from the manga by Keiichi Arawi, the series captures the quirky and colorful everyday lives of residents in an ordinary “CITY.” The story centers around broke university student Midori Nagumo, her junior Ayumu Niikura who dreams of being a photographer, and the mysterious Wako Izumi. The show is described as a girl-run comedy brimming with eccentric characters and absurd moments.

Cast Comments

Takehito Koyasu (Dr. Adatara / Mr. Adatara):
“It’s a true honor to receive an offer from Director Ishidate, who I worked with on Violet Evergarden. That was such a serious and beautiful piece—and now this is the complete opposite! A wild, gag-filled comedy. But it’s brilliant! I play both the doctor and the father, plus some other voices. It brought me back to my rookie days. Don’t miss it—you won’t regret it!”

Mayumi Asano (Mrs. Adatara):
“Ever have a moment where a small conversation just lifts your spirits? That’s what CITY feels like. Love is in making a meal, in packing a lunch. I’m filled with joy to be part of this affectionate world. Please come visit our CITY!”

KENN (Tatsuta Adatara):
“While I mainly voice Tatsuta, I also play several side roles! It’s a chaotic and charming show filled with heartwarming moments. I hope viewers will want to stay in CITY just as much as I do!”

Satoshi Inomata (Ryōta Adatara):
“As a huge fan of Keiichi Arawi’s work—especially Nichijou—being part of this anime is a dream. Recording sessions are a blast, and we’re constantly holding back laughter. It's a testing ground for comedic performance. Don’t miss this Arawi-style comedy!”

Haruna Fukushima (Umi Adatara):
“It’s an honor to join CITY, a world by Keiichi Arawi that made me laugh out loud even during recordings. The eccentric residents are sure to bring a smile to your face!”

Yūki Tenma (Sora Adatara):
“Every character in CITY is wonderfully strange and lovable. I’m thrilled to be part of such a vibrant world. Enjoy these delightfully ‘ordinary’ days that are anything but!”

The anime’s opening theme is “Hello” by Furui Riho, a rising artist making waves in Japan. The song embodies the theme of reunion, and Riho shared, “It’s a true honor to be involved in Kyoto Animation’s first new anime in six years. I’m excited to see this beautiful project reach the world.”

The ending theme, “LUCKY,” is performed by TOMOO, who is set to perform at Nippon Budokan this May. She shared her thoughts:

“While reading CITY, I found myself laughing and then suddenly moved. That led to the melody of the chorus. I love the people of this city and wrote the song hoping to live there, even if just in spirit.”

The anime’s soundtrack is composed by the instrumental band PIRANHANZ, who blend pianica, guitar, upright bass, and percussion. This marks their first foray into anime scoring. The band commented:

“We tried everything we could and relied on the anime team’s guidance. This soundtrack showcases the full range of what PIRANHANZ can do. We hope you enjoy it!”
