A Viral Sensation Returns with an Ambitious Sequel
Originally created as a graduation project by director Yohei Kameyama in 2022, Milky☆Highway gained immense popularity for its unique worldbuilding and casual yet witty dialogue. The YouTube release went viral, accumulating 6.75 million views, drawing international attention.
Now, the sequel, Galactic Express Milky☆Subway, takes the universe to new heights. Kameyama once again takes on multiple roles, including director, scriptwriter, character designer, modeling, animation, and editing.
Reflecting on the production, Kameyama shared:
"Like the previous work, I’ve packed in everything I love—casual conversations, exaggerated expressions, action, and rhythmic sound editing. This time, the character count has quadrupled, and the runtime is 12 times longer, leading to a two-year-long production. The result is a never-before-seen visual and pacing style—an entirely fresh experience. I hope everyone enjoys the expanded Milky☆Universe!"
New Adventures Aboard the Galactic Express
This installment follows Chiharu, a genetically enhanced human, and her cyborg best friend, Makina. After being arrested in Milky☆Highway for violating Galactic Traffic Laws, the duo is now assigned to cleaning duties aboard an interplanetary train, the Milky☆Subway.
The teaser PV and visual showcase the train, a key setting for the story, along with new characters who will add to the chaos. The PV also features a newly recorded dialogue exchange between Chiharu and Makina, hinting at the fast-paced comedic energy of the upcoming series.
