The "Japan Anime Trend Award 2023" is a major anime project that announces the "most buzzed-about anime" in the internet/anime industry from among the anime broadcast in 2023. Winners in various categories are selected based on comprehensive analysis from various perspectives, using data from platforms and media such as X, TikTok, Spotify, Anime! Anime!, Yahoo! JAPAN, and viewership data from ABEMA Anime, which boasts the largest user base in Japan.

The "Anime News Award," given for the most impactful news in the anime industry, went to "Detective Conan: The Movie."
The "Anime Song Award" for the most talked-about anime song was awarded to "Idol" by YOASOBI, famous for the OP theme of "Oshi no Ko."
The "Anime Goods Award" for top sales at Animate went to "Ensemble Stars!! P.A.shots!!"
The "Anime Topic Award" was given to "Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death & Shibuya Incident," and the Japan Anime Trend Award was won by "Oshi no Ko."

The reasons for "Oshi no Ko"'s grand prize include its record-breaking viewership for a new anime on ABEMA, ranking first in the anime category of the "Yahoo! Search Awards 2023," and first place for the song "Idol" in the music category, gaining popularity across generations and genders and becoming a social phenomenon.

"Oshi no Ko" is a story set in the entertainment industry, serialized in "Weekly Young Jump" (Shueisha) since April 2020. It follows the protagonist Goro, a gynecologist, who meets his favorite idol, Hoshino Ai, but after a certain event, the deceased Goro is reincarnated as Ai's child. This triggers his journey into the entertainment industry alongside her.

The manga has surpassed 15 million copies in circulation and became popular when the anime started airing in April 2023, achieving the number one spot in the world trends on X (formerly Twitter) during the first episode's broadcast. The anime sparked a surge in secondary creations, with YOASOBI's hit theme song "Idol" inspiring numerous cover videos and dance videos on TikTok's official anime account.
