Bandai Namco's Gaming Profit Soars 4,271%, Full-Year Forecast Raised
On February 5, Bandai Namco Holdings announced its financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2025 (April–December 2024). Revenue reached ¥955.6 billion, marking a 23.8% year-over-year increase, while operating profit surged by 129.0% to ¥179.2 billion. All business segments posted growth, with the digital (gaming) segment leading the charge.
The digital business recorded revenue of ¥357 billion, up 35.7% YoY, with segment profit skyrocketing by an astounding 4,271.2% to ¥70.5 billion. This growth was fueled by steady earnings from hit titles like DRAGON BALL and ONE PIECE, as well as the successful launch of Gakuen Idolmaster in May, developed by CyberAgent. Additionally, the global success of ELDEN RING’s major DLC, SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE, released in June, significantly boosted profits.
The toy and hobby segment also performed well, with revenue rising 19.0% to ¥464.1 billion and profit increasing 40.0% to ¥97.6 billion. Plastic models from the Mobile Suit Gundam series and trading card games featuring ONE PIECE and DRAGON BALL remained popular both domestically and internationally.
In the IP production business, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM became the highest-grossing Gundam film in history, while the new Blue Lock anime series enjoyed strong reception. The segment generated ¥60.9 billion in revenue (up 9.7%) and ¥9.4 billion in profit (up 38.6%).
The amusement business also saw a recovery, with domestic existing store sales increasing by 106.9% YoY. New business formats like Bandai Namco Cross Store performed well, contributing to revenue of ¥104.7 billion (up 7.7%) and a profit of ¥8.1 billion.
Given these strong results, Bandai Namco has revised its full-year forecast upward, projecting revenue of ¥1.23 trillion (7.0% increase from the previous forecast), operating profit of ¥180 billion (up 12.5%), and net profit of ¥128 billion (up 16.4%). The company also raised its annual dividend forecast to ¥71, with a planned year-end dividend of ¥60.
