Why is Bandai Expanding the Hobby Factory?
BANDAI SPIRITS has announced that a new production facility at the Bandai Hobby Center in Shizuoka will be completed in January 2025, with operations set to begin by summer. The expansion aims to increase production capacity for Gunpla models and other plastic model kits by approximately 35% compared to fiscal year 2023.
Purpose of the New Factory
The new factory, built on a 14,724-square-meter site near the existing Bandai Hobby Center, is designed to enhance production stability. It will also feature a visitor area, offering an educational look into model-making. With this facility, BANDAI SPIRITS intends to fully integrate the center's resources, significantly boosting production by the 2026 fiscal year.
About the Bandai Hobby Center
Established in 2006, the Bandai Hobby Center serves as the central hub for Bandai’s plastic model production, including the popular Gunpla series. It uses a unique four-color injection molding machine, which allows for multi-colored, easy-to-assemble models. The facility is also dedicated to eco-friendly initiatives, such as the Gunpla Recycling Project and energy consumption reduction.
