Gundam Aerial as Frieza? “The Ginyu Force” Created with “The Witch from Mercury” Gunpla Gains Praise on SNS “Absolutely Amazing”
Many heroes and villains in anime and manga have their iconic poses. Among them, for those in their 30s and 40s, the most memorable poses likely come from the Ginyu Force in “Dragon Ball Z/Kai.” The modeler lllo (@lllo_web), known for parody works, recreated these poses using Gundams from “Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury,” earning widespread acclaim for the high level of detail. Why did they decide to form the Ginyu Force using mechas from “The Witch from Mercury?”
Love for Ginyu Force’s Poses: “Believing They’re Cool Is What’s Wonderful”
――Your work, “Mobile Suit Gundam: Namekian Witch,” received praise on SNS. What are your thoughts on this?
lllo: I realized once again how popular “Dragon Ball” still is. Several commenters cleverly dubbed the team “Gand Force” (Gand refers to the medical technology in “The Witch from Mercury”), which I thought was quite witty.
――What inspired you to recreate the Ginyu Force’s poses, which particularly resonate with those in their 30s to 40s, including myself?
lllo: I love those poses. I've been a huge fan of “Dragon Ball” since it was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump.” I was particularly drawn to the Ginyu Force because they were a team with iconic poses. I’ve previously recreated these poses with the original Gundam and with five models of Mikaeris and Beguir-Pente.
――Despite being over 20 years old, Akira Toriyama's creation of such recognizable poses for the Ginyu Force is impressive.
lllo: The fact that they believe “We’re cool!” and strike those poses is wonderful. I believe Toriyama-sensei must have drawn them thinking, “They’re cool!”
