Author’s Reflection on the Ending
Minori Kurosaki shared her thoughts on the series’ conclusion:
"Given the unconventional setting and the fact that I had to depict three full years of school life, I was determined not to let the series get canceled. I never imagined it would run for five and a half years! I struggled with how to conclude the story right up until the last moment, making my final decision while drafting the final chapter. I hope readers will enjoy the ending!"
In a past interview with ORICON NEWS, Kurosaki explained why she chose marriage over romance as the central theme:
"Adults may find the idea of teenagers thinking about marriage odd, but for our teen readers, the word ‘marriage’ isn’t necessarily intimidating. Many have imagined their future last names, thought about baby names, or dreamt about lifelong love."
She also shared her personal experience, revealing that she met her husband through a marriage party.
"Romantic love leading to marriage is wonderful, but many people now actively seek partners through matchmaking apps and events. That’s why I believed a matchmaking system-based story would resonate with readers."
The final volume, Ui x Kon Vol. 17, is set to release on March 25, 2025.
