New "Anne Shirley" Anime Premieres April 2025 on NHK E-TV
The new anime series Anne Shirley, based on the classic novel Anne of Green Gables, is set to air on NHK E-TV starting April 2025. The 24-episode series has cast Honoka Inoue as the voice of the titular Anne Shirley.

Additional cast members include Aya Nakamura as Marilla, Yasuyuki Matsumoto as Matthew, Naoya Miyase as Gilbert, and Yume Miyamoto as Diana, Anne’s lifelong friend.

Set in the picturesque Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, Canada, the story follows Anne, an orphan with a vivid imagination and a kind heart, as she transforms the lives of those around her. Anne of Green Gables has been cherished in Japan for over 70 years since its translation in 1952. A previous anime adaptation aired in 1979, and now, 46 years later, the beloved tale returns as Anne Shirley, reimagined for a new generation.
