Final Volume of My Hero Academia Revealed: Cover Art for Volume 42 Includes 38 pages of new content depicting 'what lies beyond' the final chapter
The cover for the final volume of the manga My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia), authored by Kohei Horikoshi, has been revealed. Volume 42 is set to release on December 4, 2024, and details for the upcoming 2025 original art exhibition have also been announced, along with a newly illustrated key visual.
Final Volume Highlights: A Farewell to the Heroes
Volume 42 features the climactic conclusion of the battle between protagonist Izuku “Deku” Midoriya and his heroic allies against their foes. It includes the emotional finale that stirred audiences both in Japan and internationally upon its initial serialization, as well as 38 pages of exclusive new content.
The cover design echoes the layout of Volume 1, showcasing the growth of Deku and his fellow Class 1-A students at U.A. High School.
The final chapter is a 17-page feature with a poster-like center color spread on the cover, and includes a special message card with an illustration of the protagonist Deku (Izuku Midoriya) and a message from the author, Horikoshi. Furthermore, there will be a special service where all applicants can receive a "Digital Manuscript Print Mini of the Entire Final Chapter of 'My Hero Academia.'"
"My Hero Academia" started serialization on July 7, 2014. Set in a world where having superpowers called "Quirks" is the norm, the story follows the protagonist, Izuku Midoriya (Deku), as he aims to become a "hero" who protects society and fights against criminals who misuse their Quirks, known as "Villains." He grows alongside his friends at the prestigious U.A. High School, which is renowned for training heroes.
Original Art Exhibition: A Tribute to the Series
The Kohei Horikoshi My Hero Academia Original Art Exhibition will be held for 72 days, from June 21 to August 31, 2025, at the Creative Museum Tokyo in Kyobashi. A key visual, exclusively drawn by Horikoshi for the event, features a dramatic depiction of Izuku Midoriya and Tomura Shigaraki.

Profile of Author Kohei Horikoshi
Born in 1986 in Aichi Prefecture. In 2006, he won an honorable mention in the 72nd Tezuka Award for "Nukegara." In 2007, his one-shot "Tenko" was published in "Akamaru Jump," marking his debut. The following year, "Boku no Hero" was published in the same magazine. He made his serialization debut in "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 2010 with "Oumagadoki Zoo." After serializing "Sensei no Bulge" in 2012, he began serializing "My Hero Academia" in issue 32 of 2014.
