Ryusei Nakao, 73, Reflects on Debut Role and First Starring Role with Masako Nozawa
An event celebrating the first anniversary of Anime Tokyo Station in Toshima, Tokyo, was held on October 31, featuring appearances by voice actors Miina Tominaga (58) and Ryusei Nakao (73).
During the event, a video message from Masako Nozawa (88) was shown, in which she praised Tokyo’s efforts, exclaiming, “Way to go, Tokyo!” In the following talk segment, the guests shared memories of working with Nozawa.
Nakao, well-known for voicing Frieza in Dragon Ball, discussed his long history of working with Nozawa, who voices Goku. Tominaga asked, “Didn’t you work together with Masako Nozawa on your debut role?”
Nakao recalled, “Yes, I first worked in anime around the time of the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. My first starring role came the following year in 1965, where Nozawa actually played my younger brother. Now, all these years later, we’re fighting each other,” he laughed.
Anime Tokyo Station has welcomed over 100,000 visitors from Japan and abroad in its first year, serving as a hub for fans and professionals alike to explore iconic past works and the latest popular anime, making it a unique starting point into the world of anime.
