The latest movie attendance rankings (calculated over the three days from April 12 to 14, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha) are dominated by the 27th theatrical release of the anime series based on Gosho Aoyama's creation, "Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram." The film drew an impressive 2,274,000 viewers and earned 3.352 billion yen in box office revenue over the first three days, marking the highest opening performance of the year and debuting at number one.
This opening surpasses the series' previous record of 13.88 billion yen set by last year's release, "Detective Conan Black Iron Submarine" by 106.5% in the first three days, making it the best start in the series' history. The cumulative box office total for the series has now exceeded 118 billion yen. This latest installment takes place in Hokkaido, where Conan and the elusive thief Kid engage in a battle mystery revolving around a Japanese sword associated with the vice-commander of the Shinsengumi, Toshizo Hijikata.
Directed by Tomoka Nagaoka, who also handled the 2019 release "Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire" and the 2021 "Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet," the film features voice performances by Minami Takayama, Wakana Yamazaki, Rikiya Koyama, and regulars including Kappei Yamaguchi as Shinichi Kudo/Kaito Kid. Special guest You Oizumi voices a detective from the Hokkaido Prefectural Police in this thrilling edition.
