KAIJIN FUGEKI Manga: Another Major Reprint Confirmed – Kodansha’s Best-Selling Series in August
The first volume of the new series KAIJIN FUGEKI, by Oh! Great (known for Air Gear), released on August 16, has once again been set for a major reprint. According to the editorial team, the volume quickly went into reprint after its initial release and has been receiving high praise, making it the best-selling new release in August (based on POS data from Nippan for works released between August 1 and August 30 in the boys' manga genre, limited to Kodansha titles).
A representative from Kodansha's sales department shared their excitement: "Among the works whose first volumes were released within the past year in Weekly Shonen Magazine, this is undoubtedly the top seller! (Based on actual sales of first volumes from Weekly Shonen Magazine over the past year) The total sales have been growing for the longest period, and we sense a sign that it will continue to see significant growth."
The series, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine in May, is a fantasy drawn by Oh! Great. The story revolves around the concept of "Night," which was once referred to as a natural disaster. In response to these catastrophic events beyond human understanding, young boys dance relentlessly. They seek the power of the gods, to calm the wrath of the "Night," and ultimately, to save the world.
A boy named Jin, living in a peaceful rural town in Japan, encounters Gao, a British soldier who was driven from his homeland by the "Night." Surrounded by nature, the two spend their youthful days with their friends. However, the "Night" strikes again…
Comment from Manga Artist Oh! Great:
In this era where manga is so abundant, I feel it’s incredibly special that people have chosen to pick up my work. There have been many things I wanted to draw but couldn’t, whether due to my lack of skill or industry norms, and at some point, these factors started to bind both me and my work.
KAIJIN FUGEKI has loosened those constraints a little, allowing me to recall the "experiences of my younger self," the "works I admired," and the "stories I wanted to tell" as I draw. People often say the title is hard to read, but it’s pronounced Kaijin Fugeki. I’d be grateful if you could remember that! I’m doing my best to deliver my very best work, so I hope you’ll continue to support me!
