The Apothecary Diaries Series Surpasses 38 Million Copies Sold—A 1.58x Increase in One Year Thanks to the Anime Adaptation
The "The Apothecary Diaries" series (written by Natsu Hyuuga, illustrated by Touko Shino, published by Hero Bunko) has surpassed a cumulative total of 38 million copies sold.
The second season of the anime adaptation is scheduled to air in 2025. Before the first season of the anime aired, as of the end of September 2023, the series had sold a total of 24 million copies. Within one month of the first season's broadcast, the total reached 27 million. By the end of the season, the number had exceeded 33 million, and the momentum hasn't slowed, reaching 38 million copies by September 2024. Story Synopsis
Maomao, a young apothecary working in the red-light district, is kidnapped and sold into the imperial palace as a servant. Driven by her innate curiosity, she becomes entangled in a certain incident, which drastically changes her life. Catching the attention of various figures such as the high-ranking consort Gyokuyo and the handsome eunuch Jinshi, she is soon drawn into a series of mysteries in the intrigue-filled imperial court—a world of both medicine and poison.
