" New Designs Released in Regional Newspaper Ads, Iwate Features Shoto Todoroki Taking on 'Wanko Soba' Challenge"
The cumulative worldwide circulation of the manga "My Hero Academia" (Author: Kohei Horikoshi) has surpassed 100 million copies with the release of its 40th volume today, including over 60 million copies in Japan and over 40 million copies abroad (including digital editions). To commemorate this milestone, various projects are being undertaken.
Firstly, a newspaper advertisement featuring over 90 characters assembled was published in the Yomiuri Shimbun morning edition today, with the copy "Series Cumulative World Circulation Exceeds 100 Million! Thank you, it's all thanks to everyone!" alongside visuals of the heroes and villains who have spun the story coming together. Additionally, from April 4th to 10th, students from Class 1-A of U.A. High School will appear in newspaper advertisements across all 47 prefectures. Over seven days, they will travel across Japan, expressing gratitude for reaching 100 million copies through advertisements targeted at readers in each prefecture, published daily in block and regional newspapers.
In Iwate, Shoto Todoroki is shown enjoying Iwate's famous local cuisine, "Wanko Soba."
The series is set in a world where the existence of people with superhuman abilities known as "Quirks" is common. It follows the protagonist, Izuku Midoriya (Deku), as he aims to become a "Hero" who protects society and combats criminals who misuse their Quirks, growing alongside his classmates at the prestigious U.A. High School for hero training. The series has been serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" since July 2014, with its first TV anime season starting in April 2016, followed by theatrical releases. The seventh season of the TV anime is scheduled to air from May, making it a highly popular series.
Comment from Kohei Horikoshi:
"I have been allowed to walk the path paved by many great manga and anime with my thin-soled sneakers. I believe these numbers are thanks to the era I live in. That being said, I am genuinely happy that so many people have thought my manga was worth 'paying for' for such a long time. Thank you so much for supporting Deku and the others. I hope My Hero Academia can slightly further widen that paved path."
