Gundam 50th Anniversary Project Begins for 2029, April 7 Officially Named Gundam Day
Gundam Conference SPRING 2026 was held to announce new information about the Gundam series. During the event, projects leading up to the 50th anniversary of Gundam’s broadcast in 2029 were announced. April 7, the date when the original Mobile Suit Gundam first aired in 1979, has been officially designated as Gundam Day.

Since Mobile Suit Gundam began airing on April 7, 1979, the Gundam series has produced more than 90 works. Centered on its anime titles, the franchise has expanded across a wide range of business areas, including merchandise, games, amusement, and music, growing with the support of fans around the world.
Gunpla has surpassed 800 million cumulative shipments, while Gundam Card Game has issued more than 630 million cards. SD Gundam G Generation Eternal, released in 2025, exceeded 8 million downloads worldwide in one year, connecting with fans through a variety of touchpoints.
At Gundam Conference, last year’s stream introduced a number of new challenges for the Gundam series, including the reveal of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX and the pavilion exhibition at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, drawing significant attention.
