Mobile Suit Gundam Wing New Animation Announced, Original Gundam Remaster Project Begins

Gundam Conference SPRING 2026, an event announcing the latest information on the Gundam anime series, was held. It was announced that new animation for Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is in production, and that a remaster project for Mobile Suit Gundam has begun.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, which marked its 30th anniversary last year, has continued to attract many fans through a new promotional video, events, and theatrical screenings. In response to that support, the production of new animation has been decided. Details about the new footage will be announced at a later date.

Original Mobile Suit Gundam Remaster Project Set for 2029

Ahead of Gundam’s 50th anniversary, a remaster project for Mobile Suit Gundam, the starting point of the franchise, has begun in order to make the work available to even more viewers. The project is planned for release in 2029.

The Gundam series began with the television broadcast of Mobile Suit Gundam on April 7, 1979, and has since produced more than 90 works. Centered on its anime titles, the franchise has expanded into products, games, amusement, music, and many other business areas, growing with the support of fans around the world.

Gunpla has surpassed 800 million units in cumulative shipments, while the Gundam Card Game has issued more than 630 million cards. SD Gundam G Generation Eternal, released in 2025, exceeded 8 million downloads worldwide in its first year, showing how the series continues to connect with fans through various touchpoints.

At last year’s Gundam Conference stream, projects such as the reveal of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX and the Gundam pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai were introduced, drawing major attention as new challenges for the Gundam series.
