A Celebration of Kazuki Takahashi’s Creative Legacy
Kazuki Takahashi demonstrated extraordinary talent not only as a manga artist, but also as a character designer, game creator, and monster designer. His masterpiece Yu-Gi-Oh! had a tremendous impact not only on the manga industry, but also on the gaming world.
The exhibition will explore the origins of the imagination behind Takahashi’s globally beloved works, centering on Yu-Gi-Oh! and related creations. Visitors will be able to experience a large-scale display of valuable original hand-drawn artwork, production materials created during the planning stages, and rough sketches of characters and monsters.
Exclusive exhibition merchandise is also scheduled to be released to commemorate the event. Additional details about the exhibition are expected to be announced in late August.
The Legacy of Yu-Gi-Oh!
Kazuki Takahashi made his serialized manga debut in 1986. His signature work Yu-Gi-Oh! was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 1996 through March 2004.
The fictional card game “Magic & Wizards,” introduced within the story, quickly became a major topic among fans, and the series later evolved around the game itself. The first television anime adaptation aired in 1998, and the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime franchise continued with different protagonists through 2025.
The in-universe game “Magic & Wizards” was commercialized as Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game Duel Monsters, which became a worldwide phenomenon. In 2011, Guinness World Records certified it as “the best selling trading card game” after cumulative sales surpassed 25.17 billion cards worldwide.
Even after the original manga concluded, Takahashi continued contributing to the franchise as the original creator and supervisor for titles such as Yu-Gi-Oh! R and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX serialized in V Jump. He also published the one shot manga DRUMP in 2013, and in 2016 released TRANSCEND GAME Yu-Gi-Oh! alongside the theatrical film Yu-Gi-Oh! THE DARK SIDE OF DIMENSIONS, for which he served as creator, scriptwriter, character designer, and executive producer. In 2018, he published the new short term serialized work THE COMIQ.
In 2022, Takahashi died at the age of 60 after being involved in an accident while attempting to save lives.
Comments From the Anime Cast

Shunsuke Kazama as Yugi Muto

“I am truly looking forward to Professor Takahashi’s original art exhibition. In Yu-Gi-Oh!, he depicted stories where souls transcend time and space and return to life. I believe that as long as we continue to love his artwork and stories, Takahashi sensei’s soul will return to this world again and again. I cannot wait to experience his many works and feel his spirit once more.”

Kenjiro Tsuda as Seto Kaiba

“I once saw Kazuki Takahashi sensei signing autograph boards. He was not only signing them, he was also drawing illustrations. It felt like magic. In an instant, Yugi and Kaiba would emerge with incredible energy and presence.
It was at a movie celebration party where there was a little alcohol involved. He drew countless illustrations for the anime staff using shikishi boards and marker pens that he did not normally use. Even those drawings, which were probably not what he considered his full one hundred percent effort, had overwhelming power when seen in person.
As I stood beside him in complete admiration, the shy Takahashi sensei seemed embarrassed.
Duelists! You are about to witness Takahashi sensei’s true original artwork! You must see it! Kazuki Takahashi is still alive there!”
