Serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion since 2008, Yowamushi Pedal is a full scale sports manga centered on competitive road cycling. The story follows protagonist Sakamichi Onoda, an anime and video game loving otaku who enrolls at Sohoku High School in Chiba Prefecture. After being challenged to a bicycle race by his classmates, Sakamichi gradually discovers the excitement of cycling and awakens to the world of competitive racing.

The series portrays the growth of Sakamichi, who initially has no athletic ability or cycling experience, as he discovers both the thrill of road biking, often described as the fastest human powered sport, and his own hidden potential.

Yowamushi Pedal has surpassed 32 million copies in circulation worldwide. The popular manga has also expanded into multiple forms of media over the years. A stage adaptation debuted in 2012, followed by a television anime adaptation in 2013 that continued through five seasons. The franchise later received a live action drama adaptation in 2016 and a live action film adaptation in 2020.
