About Yowamushi Pedal
Yowamushi Pedal is a full scale sports manga centered on competitive cycling, serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion since 2008. The story follows Sakamichi Onoda, an anime and game loving otaku who enrolls at Sohoku High School in Chiba Prefecture. After being challenged to a bicycle race by his classmates, Onoda discovers the excitement of cycling and competitive racing.
Despite being unathletic and inexperienced, Onoda gradually uncovers both the thrill of road racing, often called the fastest sport for humans, and his own hidden potential. As the story progresses, he grows through repeated challenges and is currently portrayed as a third year student and the captain of the Sohoku High School cycling team.
The manga has surpassed 30 million copies in circulation across 87 volumes published to date. Its success has led to numerous media adaptations, including a stage play in 2012, a television anime adaptation that began in 2013 and aired for five seasons, a live action drama series in 2016, and a live action film released in 2020.
