About the Original Work
The original series, Berserk of Gluttony: The One That Exceeds the Concept of Levels, is a light novel written by Ichika Isshiki. It began serialization on the novel submission platform Shosetsuka ni Naro and was later published in print by GC Novels under Micro Magazine. The series has also been adapted into a manga illustrated by Daisuke Takino, currently serialized in Comic Ride. The total number of copies in circulation has surpassed 2.2 million.
Story Overview
Set in a world where the superiority of skills determines everything, the protagonist Fate is forced to live at the lowest level due to his seemingly useless skill “Gluttony,” which only makes him hungry. However, after defeating a bandit who infiltrated the castle, it is revealed that his skill allows him to steal the abilities and powers of those he kills. This discovery completely changes his fate.
Fate eventually encounters Greed, a sentient sword that bears the name of one of the Seven Deadly Sins, and steps into a world of conflict. Once scorned as powerless, the boy begins his rise through sheer strength.
Themes from Season 1
In the first season, Fate struggles to protect the Holy Knight Roxy, whom he cares deeply for, as well as his companions, while resisting the injustices of the world. At the same time, the story explores his inner conflict with the overwhelming power of the “Gluttony” skill, which could ultimately lead to his own destruction, making it a widely talked about element of the series.
