The original manga, which began serialization in 2020, has surpassed 15 million copies in circulation worldwide. It tells the story of legendary hitman Taro Sakamoto, who retires after falling in love and now fights once again to protect his peaceful life with his family. The series blends everyday life with high-stakes action, creating a unique narrative style. Its anime adaptation, which aired in January 2025, also achieved global success, further boosting anticipation for the live-action version.
Ren Meguro Portrays Dual Aspects of Taro Sakamoto
Ren Meguro brings to life the dual nature of the protagonist, portraying both Sakamoto’s heavier physique and his slim, battle-ready form. At a premiere event, Meguro commented on the intense action scenes, stating that he pushed himself to a level that required deep trust with his co-stars. He expressed confidence that the team succeeded in capturing the best possible performances on screen.
The film features a strong supporting cast including Fumiya Takahashi, Aya Ueto, Takumi Kitamura, Yusei Yagi, and Meru Nukumi. The project is directed by Yuichi Fukuda, known for his work on popular live-action adaptations.
First Jump Cover Collaboration in Eight Years
This cover marks the first time in approximately eight years that live-action cast members and original manga characters have appeared together on the cover of Weekly Shonen Jump, a feat last achieved with Gintama 2 in 2018. The visual of the two Sakamotos standing side by side with guns in hand leaves a strong impression, emphasizing the presence of the legendary hitman.
Inside the magazine, readers can find interviews with Ren Meguro, Fumiya Takahashi, Mayu Yokota, and director Yuichi Fukuda, along with special features and pin-up content that explore the world of SAKAMOTO DAYS from multiple angles.
The live-action film SAKAMOTO DAYS is set to premiere on April 29, 2026.
