The Japanese udon chain Marugame Seimen has opened a special collaboration location, Marugame Seimen Shinjuku Gyoenmae, in partnership with the anime Dragon Ball Z. The store began welcoming visitors on March 3 for a limited time, and a press preview event was held ahead of the opening. The restaurant is filled with elements from the Dragon Ball universe along with exclusive collaboration menu items.

A Restaurant Filled With the World of Dragon Ball

The exterior already stands out along the main street. Above the entrance, a limited collaboration logo merges the Marugame Seimen logo with the Kame School emblem, creating a surprisingly natural combination. On both sides of the entrance door, Goku, Gohan, and Master Roshi strike signature poses, while Shenron and the Dragon Balls wrap around the building’s exterior design.

Inside the restaurant, characters from Dragon Ball Z appear across walls, pillars, and partitions. One wall features famous scenes from the series, evoking memories of the anime’s most exciting moments. Counter seats run along the wall so visitors can enjoy their meals while taking in the artwork.

Another seating area features partitioned counters facing each other, decorated with character scenes and bust illustrations. The lineup includes Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Bulma, Frieza, Trunks, Piccolo, Krillin, Android 18, Yamcha, Master Roshi, and Gotenks, totaling twelve characters. With a bit of luck, visitors may even find themselves seated face to face with their favorite character. Eating a collaboration dish while feeling the intimidating presence of Frieza, for example, adds a unique touch to the experience.

At the back of the restaurant, Shenron is illustrated across three walls, gazing confidently at visitors. In this immersive Dragon Ball themed environment, guests can enjoy three limited collaboration menu items.

The dessert Dragon Ball Udonuts (Chocolate Flavor) combines Marugame Seimen’s chewy udon dough texture with their signature donut style snack known as “Udonuts.” The dough is mixed with carrot paste and fried, then coated in chocolate to recreate the color of Dragon Balls.

Instead of the usual five pieces, the set includes seven donuts, representing the seven Dragon Balls. A star shaped sugar candy soaked in maple syrup can be added to recreate the stars inside each Dragon Ball, making the dessert an interactive experience where guests effectively “collect all seven Dragon Balls.”

From March 3 to March 16, the dessert is served in a limited cup featuring Shenron, while from March 17 to April 6 it will come in a cup decorated with Goku.

Another item is Senzu Bean Style Tempura, inspired by the legendary Senzu Beans frequently eaten by Goku in the series. The dish features edamame coated in tempura batter and fried. Its bite sized portion makes it easy for children to enjoy while also working as a snack for adults. The paper bag packaging features Yajirobe watching over the dish.

The third menu item references Goku’s powerful technique, the Spirit Bomb. The Spirit Bomb Rice Ball with Soft Boiled Egg is enormous in size, larger than the fist of many adult men. A soft boiled egg is wrapped in rice, coated with white sesame and ground sesame, and fried in tempura batter. It is described as one of the largest rice balls ever offered by Marugame Seimen. Because of its size, adding the restaurant’s tendon sauce as a flavor variation is recommended.

Nationwide Campaign and Exclusive Merchandise

In addition to the themed restaurant, Marugame Seimen is running a nationwide collaboration campaign. Customers normally receive one Udon Ticket for every bowl of udon purchased, but during the campaign these tickets feature designs based on popular characters and scenes from Dragon Ball Z. A total of 30 designs plus 2 secret versions are distributed randomly across two phases.
