Godzilla’s First Live Action Drama “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” Season 2 Unleashes an Epic Clash of Titans in Its Full Trailer

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2, the first live action drama series set in the Godzilla universe, has revealed its full trailer and a new key visual, showcasing colossal kaiju battles on an unprecedented scale. The footage was unveiled on February 3 local time during Apple TV Press Day held in Santa Monica, California.

A New Threat Emerges in the Monsterverse

The Apple TV original series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returns for Season 2 with even higher stakes. In a world still haunted by the terror of Godzilla, Kong makes his dramatic appearance in the new season. The story further escalates as a rift to another dimension opens, giving rise to a new threat known as Titan X, described as a living natural disaster.

The series is the first drama installment in Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse franchise. Centered on the secretive organization Monarch, a multinational agency established to investigate and study gigantic unidentified creatures such as Godzilla, the show explores stories that could not be fully told in the films.

Kate, portrayed by Anna Sawai, survived Godzilla’s devastating attack on San Francisco. Alongside her half brother Kentaro, played by Ren Watabe, whom she met in Japan, she seeks the truth behind their father’s mysterious disappearance. Their search leads them into the hidden world of Godzilla and the Titans, as well as the secrets of Monarch itself. Along the way, they encounter Colonel Lee Shaw, portrayed by Kurt Russell, a man who holds the key to Monarch’s past and its concealed truths. As the two learn that Monarch now faces an existential crisis, further revelations surface about Lee Shaw’s youth, portrayed by Wyatt Russell, and his connection to Kate’s grandmother. As the truth comes into focus, Godzilla and other Titans close in on them.

From Japan to Skull Island

The stage expands from Japan to Skull Island in Season 2. Kong, the king of the Titans, shakes the earth with his overwhelming presence, while a mysterious village emerges where a Titan sealed within ancient sea legends lies dormant. Standing before Godzilla and Kong is the new and terrifying enemy Titan X.

More than a mere monster, Titan X is portrayed as a true living catastrophe. When its massive bioluminescent body rises to the ocean’s surface, the world is left breathless. This ancient force, emerging from the depths of the sea, possesses unmatched power and an unknown purpose, inspiring both awe and terror. Its grotesque presence has even led other kaiju to worship it as a god like being.

As Titan X leads other monsters toward human inhabited lands, humanity places its last hope on the clash between Titans. With the fate of mankind at stake, Colonel Lee Shaw, Kate, and their allies head for Skull Island where Kong resides, and ultimately toward Godzilla himself.

Kurt Russell leads the cast, with his real life son Wyatt Russell appearing alongside him, marking a notable father son collaboration. Anna Sawai, who won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for Shogun, and Ren Watabe also return for the new season. The cast further includes Kiersey Clemons and Mari Yamamoto. Guest appearances in Season 2 feature Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtis Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominic Tipper, and Camilo Jimenez Varon.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 will begin streaming worldwide on Apple TV on February 27.
