Original Author Commentary on “Official History” and “Romance”

The Three Kingdoms is traditionally divided into two major interpretations: the official historical records and the later Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a popular historical novelization. The influence of the Romance on later generations has been profound, and it was through works based on it that the author first encountered and became deeply fascinated with the Three Kingdoms era.

In this context, if the original manga is considered the official history, the anime Nippon Sangoku is positioned as its Romance counterpart. Fans of the original work are encouraged to experience the anime’s creative interpretations, dynamic action, rich visual presentation, and powerful voice performances that go beyond what can be found in historical records alone. New viewers who discover the series through the anime are invited to explore the original work as its historical foundation. By comparing these two perspectives and sharing discussions across boundaries, the author hopes the series will be loved by an even wider audience.

Cast Comments

Kesho Ono

Kesho Ono as Aoteru Misumi

■Kensho Ono as Aoteru Misumi
I am Kensho Ono, and I will be playing Aoteru Misumi in the television anime Nippon Sangoku. I have been a big fan of the original work for a long time, so I feel truly honored to be able to participate in this project.

Nippon Sangoku is a Japanese version of the Three Kingdoms, yet it is set in a near future and features modern language. Above all, the power this work has to draw viewers into its world is incredible. Watching Aoteru use his knowledge to break through difficult situations is exhilarating.

I will approach this role with the aim of fully expressing the appeal of both the work and the character in the anime. The director and the rest of the cast are extremely motivated as well. Please look forward to the broadcast.

Asami Seto

Asami Seto as Saki Higashimachi

■Asami Seto as Saki Higashimachi
Saki Higashimachi is a character who quickly recognizes Aoteru’s hidden talent and possesses the strength to push him forward. At the same time, because of her honest personality, she gives him a sense of peace and becomes a place where he belongs.

I carefully portrayed Saki while cherishing both her strong core and her emotional side. Please be sure to see Aoteru’s story of the reunification of Japan through to the end.

Takashi Nagasako

Takashi Nagasako as Denki Taira

■Takashi Nagasako as Denki Taira
“I am the state itself. Doyufyu. Laughs.”

I will be playing the role of Denki Taira, a character whose thoughts are impossible to read. I am enjoying portraying the gap between his eerie, comical nature and the cruelty of his meticulously planned acts.

Where will Japan ultimately end up. I hope you will enjoy this grand story that shakes the soul. Unlike the world of the series, the atmosphere in the studio is peaceful. Denki Taira will guide you straight to hell.

Megumi Han

Megumi Han as Narrator

■Megumi Han as Narrator
This is a future that is by no means impossible, yet it feels as though one is deciphering a historical chronicle. I will be participating in this work from the position of its storyteller.

When I received the role and the script, I wondered whether I was truly capable of fulfilling this responsibility. Even so, I did everything I could as I am now, confronting this era and the people who live within it, starting with Aoteru Misumi.

I sincerely hope that you will receive the thoughts, the lives, and the ways of living of those who live, fight, and create in this world.
