Drops of God is based on the manga written by Agi Tadashi and illustrated by Shu Okimoto, which was serialized in Morning magazine published by Kodansha from 2004 to 2014. The series has surpassed 15 million copies in circulation worldwide.

In 2009, a live action television drama adaptation starring Kazuya Kamenashi aired on Nippon TV. More recently, the internationally co produced Japanese French American drama series Drops of God debuted in 2023. Season one was released globally, with season two scheduled for distribution beginning on the 23rd.

The upcoming anime represents the first time Drops of God has been adapted into animated form.
