Blue Lock Live Action Film Casts Fumiya Takahashi as Yoichi Isagi, Begins 12 Days of Cast Reveals Ahead of World Cup Year Summer Release
Blue Lock, the hugely popular soccer manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, is officially being adapted into a live action film. Actor Fumiya Takahashi has been confirmed to play the protagonist Yoichi Isagi. Nearly four months after the live action adaptation was first announced, a character visual of Isagi has also been unveiled alongside the tagline “Ego awakens.” It has additionally been revealed that the film will be released this summer, coinciding with the year in which the FIFA World Cup takes place.

A Soccer Survival Story That Ignited an Ego Driven Phenomenon
With total circulation surpassing 50 million copies, Blue Lock has unleashed a storm of “ego” across Japan. The story is set around the Blue Lock Project, an extreme training program launched by the Japan Football Union to develop a striker capable of leading Japan to World Cup victory. Following its television anime adaptation in 2022, Blue Lock received a theatrical anime release in 2024. The franchise has since expanded through a wide range of media, including smartphone games and stage adaptations.
On September 28 last year, during the event Blue Lock Egoist Festa 2025 held at Keio Arena Tokyo, the live action film adaptation was announced as a surprise, generating significant buzz and excitement.

Social Media Teasers Spark Frenzied Speculation
Since the live action film was revealed, speculation surrounding the cast has intensified. On January 25 at 8:00 PM, the official social media accounts suddenly posted an image combining the eyes of twelve characters alongside the phrase “Ego gathers,” setting social media abuzz. Then, at 7:00 AM the following day on January 26, an image featuring a single pair of striking blue eyes was unveiled, instantly igniting further excitement and drawing major attention to the upcoming lead cast announcement.

Fumiya Takahashi’s Career and His Portrayal of Yoichi Isagi
Fumiya Takahashi rose to prominence after starring in Kamen Rider Zero One and has since appeared in numerous notable works, including I Will Be Your Bloom (JP: 君の花になる, Kimi no Hana ni Naru) in 2022, Fermat’s Cuisine in 2023, and the television drama Anpan in 2025. He is also set to star in the upcoming animated feature The Kusunoki no Bannin (JP: クスノキの番人), marking his first leading role in a full length animated film. In addition, he serves as a regular personality on Nippon Broadcasting System’s radio program Fumiya Takahashi’s All Night Nippon X, showcasing his versatility across multiple entertainment fields.

Starting today, the production has also announced that new cast members will be revealed over twelve consecutive days. Through the official Instagram, X, and TikTok accounts, one member of Team Z will be introduced each day until February 6. With only one spot available among three hundred contenders, attention is firmly fixed on who will portray these uniquely driven characters.
