On the casting process, Matsuhashi emphasized the importance of realism in embodying the characters’ ‘ego’:
“We held an extensive audition of over 1,000 participants, focusing on soccer experience, appearance, acting ability, and personality. Even the lead role was chosen through this rigorous process.”
He further revealed that the cast began training under professional soccer players about a year and a half before filming:
“They have transformed into egoists true to the original manga, training rigorously to embody the spirit of Blue Lock. They push each other to new heights and are approaching filming with incredible energy. While honoring the foundation built by the manga, we will pursue expressions unique to live action and deliver a new era of entertainment. Please look forward to it!”
