Cyborg 009 Returns With New Anime “Cyborg 009: Nemesis” Streaming in 2026, Teaser PV Reveals Theme Song “Taga Tame ni”

The new anime Cyborg 009: Nemesis has been officially announced and is set to stream in 2026. Alongside the announcement, a teaser promotional video and the first visual of Cyborg 009, Joe Shimamura, have been unveiled.

Cyborg 009 tells the story of nine cyborg warriors gathered from around the world and forcibly modified through surgery to become weapons of war. Each carries personal sorrow and inner conflict, yet they unite to fight evil in the name of world peace. The original manga by Shotaro Ishinomori began serialization in 1964 in Weekly Shonen King and was later adapted into multiple television anime series.

The teaser PV features a preview of the theme song “Taga Tame ni (JP: 誰がために),” accompanied by the newly revealed visual of Cyborg 009, Joe Shimamura. The video hints at the presence of a new enemy beyond his determined gaze.

The theme song for the new anime has been confirmed as “Dare ga Tame ni,” with lyrics written by original creator Shotaro Ishinomori. The song is widely known as the opening theme of the 1979 Cyborg 009 television anime. Its lyrics reflect the fate, sorrow, and resolve of the cyborg warriors, words penned by Ishinomori himself. In this new adaptation, the song is performed by rock singer Kyoko, also known for her work with BARBEE BOYS, delivering the song’s message in a new form.

Kyoko’s Comment

“I am truly honored to announce that I, Kyoko, have had the opportunity to sing the theme song ‘Taga Tame ni.’ Cyborg 009 is a work that has been deeply familiar to me since childhood, and I feel incredibly privileged to be involved in such a long standing and historic series through music. In order to respect both the work itself and the world of the song ‘Dare ga Tame ni,’ I approached the recording with a great sense of responsibility. Thanks to the arrangement by Yosuke Sato, I believe this has become a new version of ‘Dare ga Tame ni’ in my own style. I would be delighted if audiences enjoy the theme song together with the anime.”
