A Shocking Finale and an Unforgettable Line
Following the film’s impactful ending, Director Fukui addressed the restless atmosphere in the theater, remarking with satisfaction that he had been looking forward to this reaction for an entire year, while cautioning the audience to avoid spoilers regarding the finale.
Yamadera, smiling as he spoke, said he was genuinely happy that audiences were finally able to see Chapter Five. When asked about the most memorable moment for him, he pointed to a scene in which Dessler utters the line “Yamato yo Towa ni.” He admitted that he never imagined he would be given the chance to say such a line, adding that it made him truly happy. While refraining from revealing the context of the scene, Okamoto enthusiastically commented that the moment left him completely stunned.

For Okamoto, who was appearing at a Space Battleship Yamato stage greeting for the first time, the experience was especially moving. Reflecting on the thirteen years it took to reach this moment, he expressed deep emotion at finally standing on stage. His lighthearted remark about having relatively few lines, made in front of the chief director, also drew laughter from the audience.

Moderator Nakamura raised a question about Dessler’s softer impression in this installment. Yamadera responded that the character has gone through many experiences, noting that Dessler now listens more carefully to others. He explained that he felt a new sense of composure in the character, contrasting it with the earlier portrayal in which Dessler would scoff dismissively. In this film, Yamadera observed, Dessler even praises others with a quiet laugh, showing how the character has gradually changed.
