PSYREN is based on the supernatural battle suspense manga by Toshiaki Iwashiro, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2008 to 2010.
The story follows first year high school student Ageha Yoshina, who one day finds a mysterious red telephone card left inside a public phone booth. Several days later, his childhood friend and classmate Sakurako Amamiya, who possesses the same card, suddenly disappears.
In his search for Sakurako, Ageha gains access to the so called Secret Organization PSYREN, rumored to be behind a nationwide series of mysterious disappearances. What awaits him is a deadly survival game where lives are constantly at stake.
Despite concluding nearly 16 years ago, PSYREN continues to enjoy strong popularity and has been nominated three times for the AnimeJapan fan voting project Manga We Want to See Animated.
