Gintama The Movie Yoshiwara in Flames Introduces Original New Character Enkaku Voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi, With Otose, Catherine, and Tama Cast Returning

Gintama The Movie Yoshiwara in Flames reveals a brand new original character, Enkaku, marking the first appearance of this role in the franchise as the film approaches its February 13 theatrical release.

Original Character Enkaku Joins the Film With Kappei Yamaguchi

The completely new animated feature Gintama The Movie Yoshiwara in Flames has announced the debut of an original character named Enkaku. The role will be voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi, making his first participation in the Gintama anime series.

Enkaku serves as a close aide to the Night King Hosen, operating behind the scenes in the underground pleasure district of Yoshiwara. As a mysterious figure working in the shadows of the city, Enkaku plays a key role as an adversary within the story.

Commenting on his participation, Yamaguchi said, “This is my first time in Gintama. I joined as the original character Enkaku, and as expected of an Amanto, he was full of mysteries. I honestly could not tell if he was young or old. He is an important character, right? But I had a great time recording with the Shinsengumi cast, so I felt this was the right approach. Thank you for my first Gintama experience.”

Returning Kabukicho Cast and Newly Released Scene Cuts

Alongside the new character announcement, the film confirmed the return of familiar Kabukicho characters. The cast includes Kujira as Otose, Yuu Sugimoto as Catherine, and Omi Minami as Tama, reprising their roles from the original Yoshiwara in Flames arc.

Newly released scene cuts highlight the characters’ appearances and actions in the upcoming film. Additional visuals featuring Elizabeth and other key characters have also been unveiled, offering a closer look at the movie’s atmosphere and dramatic moments.

About Gintama and the Yoshiwara in Flames Arc

Gintama is based on the manga by Hideaki Sorachi, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2003. Set in an alternate Edo period ruled by extraterrestrial beings known as Amanto, the story follows freelancer Gintoki Sakata and the people around him in a science fiction historical comedy.

The manga concluded in June 2019 and has surpassed 73 million copies in circulation. The franchise has expanded into television anime, multiple animated films, and live action adaptations starring Shun Oguri.

The story of Gintama The Movie Yoshiwara in Flames takes place in the underground pleasure city of Yoshiwara, a lightless domain ruled by the Night King Hosen. Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura of the Yorozuya step into this forbidden city, bringing to life one of the most intense and celebrated arcs from the original manga as a fully new animated theatrical feature.
