Monthly Evangelion Screening in Japan Returns with “Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo” as Fifth Installment, Featuring New Voice Comments by Akira Ishida and Maaya Sakamoto
The Monthly Evangelion screening project continues in Japan as the fifth installment presents Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in theaters for a limited time starting January 9.

Since its television debut in 1995, Neon Genesis Evangelion has grown into a cultural phenomenon. To celebrate the series 30th anniversary, a special theatrical revival project titled Monthly Eva Evangelion 30th Movie Fest 2025–2026 has been underway since 2025. As part of this ongoing celebration, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo will be screened nationwide in Japanese cinemas beginning this week.

The Monthly Eva project is a commemorative initiative that sequentially screens all six Evangelion theatrical films. The program launched in October last year, with Evangelion Death and Rebirth, The End of Evangelion, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance already drawing large audiences across Japan.

For the Evangelion: 3.0 screening, newly recorded audio comments by Akira Ishida, the voice of Kaworu Nagisa, and Maaya Sakamoto, who voices Mari Makinami Illustrious, have been confirmed. The audio only commentary runs for approximately eight minutes in total and will be played in all participating theaters nationwide.

In addition, two prequel works connected to Evangelion: 3.0 will be screened together. These include EVANGELION: 3.0 (-46h) and EVANGELION: 3.0 (-120min.), both originally included as bonus features on the Blu ray and DVD release of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.

Notably, EVANGELION: 3.0 (-120min.) is a motion comic adaptation of an original manga that appeared in the official booklet EVA EXTRA EXTRA, which was distributed as a theatrical admission gift for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0. Outside of special event screenings, this marks its first theatrical release.
Alongside the announcement, new still images from both works have been unveiled. One visual from -46h features Midori Kitakami and Evangelion Unit 02 Alpha in its provisional configuration, while a still from -120min. depicts Mari speaking to Asuka shortly before the opening of Evangelion: 3.0.

The Evangelion 30th anniversary project will continue with further events. From February 21 to February 23, a three day large scale event titled EVANGELION 30+ 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION is scheduled to take place, marking the first event of its kind in the series history.
