The upcoming theatrical film is directly connected to the television special Kaguya-sama: Love Is War: The Stairway to Adulthood (JP: かぐや様は告らせたい 大人への階段), which aired on December 31 2025. The story opens after Vice President Kaguya Shinomiya and Student Council President Miyuki Shirogane begin dating. It begins with a quiet scene of Kaguya alone, looking through a photo album. As she reflects on each photograph, memories of her days at Shuchiin Academy and the time she spent with her friends come flooding back. Through this structure, the film aims to deliver a sense of nostalgia while simultaneously presenting something new to the audience.

Aka Akasaka commented on returning to a story that had already been brought to a close, saying that he wondered what kind of addition he could make to a narrative that was once finished. He described the process as both frightening and enjoyable. He went on to say that he hopes to deliver a completely new Kaguya sama that feels new yet nostalgic, and that this film will likely be the very last entry in the series.

In addition, the ending theme song for the television special, titled Red and Blue, was unveiled for the first time. The song is performed by Aoi Koga, who voices Kaguya Shinomiya. Koga explained that she carefully considered the meaning of Kaguya singing at this point in the story. Keeping the theme of adulthood in mind, she said she approached the song as if she were turning the pages of an album, gently looking back on memories from the past.

Details such as the theatrical film’s release date and official title have not yet been announced. However, expectations are high that the project will serve as a fitting conclusion to the beloved series.
