This movie, a continuation of the fourth season of the TV anime 'Haikyuu!! TO THE TOP' aired in 2020, is being produced as a two-part theatrical film. The first part covers one of the most popular episodes from the original manga: the third round of the Spring High Tournament, Karasuno High vs. Nekoma High, also known as "The Dumpster Battle." It picks up from where the fourth season left off, following the Inarizaki High match.

'Haikyuu!!' is a youth story about high school volleyball, based on the manga of the same name serialized in 'Weekly Shonen Jump' (Shueisha) from February 2012 to July 2020. Set in Miyagi Prefecture, it follows the protagonist Shoyo Hinata, who aims to become the "Little Giant," the former ace of the Karasuno High Volleyball Club. Alongside his teammates, including the genius setter Tobio Kageyama, known as the "King of the Court," Hinata strives to improve and grow.
The manga series has surpassed 60 million copies in circulation, with the TV anime airing its first season in 2014, its second season in 2015, its third season in 2016, and its fourth season in 2020.
