Following their victory against Shiratorizawa Academy High School in the Miyagi Prefecture finals, Karasuno High School Volleyball Team is gearing up for the national tournament. Meanwhile, news of Kageyama's invitation to the All-Japan Youth Training Camp arrives, and Tsukishima is also invited to a training camp organized by Shiratorizawa's coach Washijō, gathering select first-year players from within Miyagi Prefecture. Feeling left out, Hinata, unable to suppress his frustration, crashes the Miyagi Prefecture first-year select training camp, eventually being allowed to participate in a ball boy capacity. Observing practices from outside the court, Hinata gains insight into various aspects of the game, such as spike courses and the flexibility provided by high tosses, bringing back valuable lessons from the camp.

On the other hand, Kageyama, attending the All-Japan Youth Camp, practices alongside the nation's top players, making his presence felt even in such a high-level environment. However, he is unsettled by Atsumu Miya of Inarizaki High School, who calls Kageyama's play "good boy" volleyball, a comment Kageyama struggles to fully grasp until after the camp ends.

With Hinata, Kageyama, and Tsukishima returning from their respective camps, Karasuno High faces Date Tech High School in a practice match, struggling against their top-tier blocks. This brings out a rare outburst from Kageyama, reminiscent of his traumatic experiences of isolation in middle school. However, after confronting these memories and communicating openly with his teammates, Kageyama overcomes his past, allowing him to play without restraint and leading to significant individual and team growth.

As the spring high school volleyball national tournament begins, Karasuno's first match is against Tsubakihara Academy. After initially struggling with the high ceiling of the Tokyo gymnasium, Karasuno manages to unveil their "freak quick attack" on the national stage, overcoming Tsubakihara Academy with a series of flawless sets from Kageyama and spikes from Hinata, thereby advancing to the second round. Here, they face the formidable Inarizaki High School, featuring the nationally acclaimed Miya twins, marking a highly anticipated rematch between Kageyama and Atsumu Miya since the All-Japan Youth Camp.

The intense match against Inarizaki High School showcases both teams' strengths, with Karasuno deploying their "freak quick attack" and the Miya twins countering with their own version. Despite the fierce competition, it's the bond and growth of Karasuno's team members, particularly Hinata's resilience and adaptability, that turn the tide. In a nail-biting finish, Karasuno secures victory, setting the stage for their next challenge against Nekoma High School in what promises to be an epic showdown, continuing the storied rivalry between the two schools.
