Shoyo Hinata eagerly faced his first and last official middle school match. However, he suffers a devastating defeat in the first match against a school featuring the genius setter known as the "King of the Court," Tobio Kageyama. Driven by frustration, Hinata practices diligently and joins the volleyball club in high school, which happens to be Karasuno High School. This is the school where his idol, the "Little Giant," a short player but legendary, once attended. Excited by the new environment, Hinata rushes into the gymnasium, only to encounter Kageyama there. The two, immediately at odds, clash right after joining the club. The team captain, Daichi Sawamura, declares that they must win an in-house match to be allowed to join the volleyball team due to their constant bickering.

Preparing for this match, they practice individually in the early morning and during lunch breaks, but Kageyama refuses to set for Hinata. Finally, at the scrimmage, they find themselves trailing behind the team of first-years, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi... As their combination develops during the match, Kageyama sets for Hinata for the first time. Hinata's natural speed and agility perfectly complement the set, turning it into their strongest weapon. They manage to win the match and officially join the team, marking the beginning of Karasuno High's story.

Aiming for the Interhigh, Karasuno continues to play practice matches, one of which is against the powerhouse Nekoma High School of Tokyo. Nekoma, a rival from the former coach's era, is led by captain Kuroo and includes the "heart and brain of Nekoma," setter Kenma, and Inuoka, who can keep up with Hinata despite his tall stature. The match, known as the "Battle at the Garbage Dump" due to the rivalry, is reignited here.

Karasuno initially leads with Hinata and Kageyama's quick attacks, but Nekoma's high defensive skills start to break through. The match, fiercely competitive to the point of not seeming like a practice game, ends with Karasuno's narrow defeat, gaining them a "meaningful loss" and finding many points for reflection. Both teams vow to bring the "Battle at the Garbage Dump" to an official game, each advancing on their path. The Interhigh preliminaries begin, a tournament where a single loss is not an option. Karasuno wins against Johzenji High in the first round and faces Date Tech High in the second. Date Tech, with captain Moniwa, the tricky Aone, and the powerful Futakuchi, is known for their "Iron Wall" block. Previously, Karasuno's ace Asahi was thoroughly marked by Aone in a match before Hinata and Kageyama joined, leading to a crushing defeat and a trauma for Asahi.

Rising to challenge this nightmare, libero Nishinoya encourages the team, saying, "You've got nothing to worry about! Just look ahead, and I'll protect your backs!!" They overcome the "Iron Wall" of Date Tech and win. Asahi regains his confidence, and Karasuno advances to the third round. In the qualifying third round, they face Aoba Johsai, led by Kageyama's senior Oikawa. Seijoh steadily scores against Karasuno, which quickly finds itself at a disadvantage. Struggling to close the gap with Seijoh, Karasuno experiences rapid growth mid-game, with Hinata and Kageyama turning the tide with their "Freak Quick Attack." Despite their efforts, they are ultimately defeated in the final set. Hinata and Kageyama struggle to accept their defeat, nearly crushed by the sense of loss, until their coach Takeda asks, "Is losing a proof of weakness? Isn't 'defeat' a trial for you?" Inspired, they immediately start practicing for the next tournament.

The newly released movie stills include two scenes. The first is Hinata's initial encounter with Kenma during a training camp, where Hinata, lost in an unfamiliar place, is drawn by a cat's meow and stumbles upon Kenma playing a video game by the roadside. Hinata asks, "Do you like volleyball?" but Kenma, yet to discover the true joy of volleyball, responds lukewarmly. The second still shows Hinata gearing up for a spike from Kageyama's toss. The "Freak Quick Attack" born in Season 1 makes a powerful appearance in the movie! "Nekoma's brain," Kenma, thoroughly analyzes and counters Hinata's moves. What kind of set will Kageyama make to "create a path for the spiker"?
