The classic magical girl anime Magical Princess Minky Momo will receive a brand new original video animation, marking the first new animated installment in years.

The announcement was shared via the official X account of the franchise, stating, “A new OVA for Magical Princess Minky Momo is now in production. Please wait for further updates.”

Magical Princess Minky Momo is a television anime series produced by Ashi Productions. The first series aired in 1982, followed by a second television series in 1991. Both installments gained immense popularity among young girls and are widely regarded as foundational works of the magical girl genre.

The series is known for its heartfelt theme of restoring dreams and hope. Using magic that allows her to transform into an adult, the protagonist fights to help people who have nearly forgotten their dreams rediscover them.

Long ago, there existed a dream kingdom on Earth known as Fenarinarsa. However, as people gradually lost their dreams and hopes, the kingdom was forced to leave the human world. The king, saddened by this loss, decided to send his daughter, Minky Momo, to Earth.

Each time Momo gives dreams to people on Earth, a jewel called a Happy Tear is set into the royal crown of Fenarinarsa. When all twelve Happy Tears are gathered, the dream kingdom will be able to return to Earth.

As the princess of Fenarinarsa, Minky Momo works together with Sindbook, Mocha, and Pipil, using magic that allows her to become an adult in order to help people achieve their dreams and regain hope.
