Love Through a Prism is set in early 20th century London and follows a coming of age romance between a Japanese exchange student aspiring to become a painter and a young British aristocrat. The two meet by chance and grow together while inspiring one another. The series is a completely original animated work created by Yoko Kamio, the renowned author of Boys Over Flowers, and is scheduled for worldwide exclusive streaming on Netflix starting January 15 next year.

The event featured Kamio herself, who serves as original creator, character designer, and scriptwriter, along with director Kazuto Nakazawa, WIT STUDIO animation producer Keita Yoshinobu, and planning and production lead Daiki Sakurai.

Kaji revealed that he was personally selected by Kamio through the audition process, with her saying, “I absolutely wanted Kaji for this role,” leading to his casting as Shinnosuke Kobayakawa. He shared his excitement, stating that being chosen for a project by the creator of Boys Over Flowers, a work that captivated audiences since his childhood, was an incredible honor.

He also reflected on his mindset during the audition, explaining that when he first reviewed materials for the character Kobayakawa, he felt he could approach the role naturally without over constructing the character, which strongly motivated him to audition. At the same time, Kaji confessed that this period coincided with a particularly difficult phase in his career, during which he faced repeated audition rejections. When fellow panelists expressed surprise, he explained that there are years when he auditions 50 to 60 times and may only secure one or two roles.

Despite those challenges, Kaji spoke earnestly about the joy of being accepted for a role he truly wanted, saying that he was genuinely happy to have been chosen and grateful to be able to portray the character.
