Jujutsu Kaisen Interview: Junya Enoki, Yuma Uchida, and Kenjiro Tsuda Discuss the Shibuya Incident – “It’s Bad News Without Gojo”
The official pamphlet for the currently released Jujutsu Kaisen the Movie: Shibuya Incident Special Edition × The Culling Game Advance Screening includes a roundtable interview with Junya Enoki (Yuji Itadori), Yuma Uchida (Megumi Fushiguro), and Kenjiro Tsuda (Kento Nanami). An excerpt from that discussion has now been made public.

―What does Jujutsu Kaisen mean to each of you personally?
Enoki
This is the series for which I receive the most reactions and messages from fans. To put it simply, Jujutsu Kaisen has changed my career as an actor. I genuinely feel that this series raised me, and because of that, I want to repay the favor through my performance. It is a work that is very important to me.

Uchida
It has been over five years since the audition. I remember that around the time it was announced I would be playing Fushiguro, the “Shibuya Incident” arc had just begun serialization. So seeing that arc adapted and becoming such a popular storyline feels deeply moving. I personally go to Shibuya often, so imagining “this is where that happened” was fun. But the animation quality far surpassed anything I had imagined. I simply feel fortunate to have been able to enjoy Jujutsu Kaisen all the way up to this point.
Tsuda
The response to this series has been tremendous. Not only in Japan, but many passionate fans exist overseas as well. Two years ago, I traveled to Europe and was approached five times during a six day stay. Even this year in Spain, a very intimidating looking man suddenly called out “Tsuda san,” which startled me. When I asked how they knew me, every single person said “Jujutsu Kaisen.” The “Shibuya Incident” was a very heavy season for Nanami, but being able to take part in such an incredible work has been truly gratifying, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

―Looking back on the first half of the Shibuya Incident arc: What were your thoughts when Gojo was sealed?
Tsuda
I thought, “It’s bad news without Gojo” (laughs).
Uchida
Right? As long as he’s around, you always feel like “things will be fine.”
Tsuda
Losing the absolute strongest brings a real sense of unease.
Enoki:
With Gojo sealed, the balance of power becomes completely disrupted, so I figured the battles for each character would naturally escalate. But I also thought that might make things more interesting. Without an overwhelmingly strong figure present, it becomes a stage where everyone has to demonstrate their own full abilities.

Uchida
Even after being sealed, Gojo was smiling like “Well, it’ll work out somehow.” I remember thinking, “Is this really the time to be smiling?” But even sealed, Gojo Satoru is still Gojo Satoru. Because of that, it didn’t feel like he had truly disappeared, yet all these disastrous events kept occurring because of his absence. For Fushiguro and the others, it must have been an enormous turning point.
Tsuda:
At first I thought, “Still… surely he’ll come back at the perfect moment” (laughs). But he never showed up. That’s when I realized how amazing Gege Akutami is. Disabling the strongest trump card—this is something unheard of in traditional shonen manga. It made me feel once again that Jujutsu Kaisen represents a new era of shonen storytelling, and that Akutami sensei is creating something truly remarkable.
