In the interview, Kensho Ono reflects on the character’s turning point, saying that Hathaway has already “stepped onto a starting line from which he can no longer turn back.” Despite being the son of a hero of the Earth Federation Forces, Hathaway chooses the path of resistance as the leader of Mafty, driven by the belief that he must carry out “what someone has to do.” Meanwhile, the mysterious girl Gigi brings out a more human, vulnerable side of Hathaway, challenging his convictions and shaking the resolve behind his choices. The film raises the question of what destiny ultimately awaits him.

Hathaway’s Flash was produced as part of the “UC NexT 0100” project commemorating the 40th anniversary of Gundam in 2019, serving as the second cinematic work in the initiative. Deeply rooted in the world established by Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack (1988), the film series follows the anti–Earth Federation movement Mafty, weaving together the intersecting fates of its leader Hathaway Noa, the enigmatic Gigi Andalucia, and Federation Colonel Kenneth Sleg.
