Tsuburaya Productions and Toei Animation Team Up for New Anime Kaiju Decode: The Aidara no Yubiwa
Tsuburaya Productions and Toei Animation announced on October 20 that they are co-producing a new anime titled Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara. The project is part of the transmedia initiative “KAIJU DECODE,” themed around “a story of a kaiju and a girl.” Alongside the announcement, a key visual, special video, and cast details were revealed. Aki Yamane will voice the kind-hearted boy Maru, while Karin Takahashi will play Coco, a girl from the Aidara tribe who coexists with kaiju.

The “KAIJU DECODE” project has previously explored various forms of media, including the 9-minute short anime KAIJU DECODE (streaming on TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION), the VR anime KAIJU DECODE -first contact- (available on Meta Store), and the MR game KAIJU DECODE -super multiverse MR- (also on Meta Store).
The latest addition, Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara, is set in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. The story follows Maru, a boy living peacefully in The City (a society freed from the limitations of body, mind, space, and time) and Coco, a girl living in The Zone, a dangerous land inhabited by hyper-dimensional lifeforms. The two come from opposing worlds but strive to find a way to coexist.

Maru

Aya Yamane
■ Comment from Aki Yamane (Voice of Maru)
“Maru is a straightforward, pure-hearted boy with a strong sense of justice who helps others without hesitation. I hope viewers pay attention to how he was born and how he changes through his encounters with the Aidara people.
Although the story takes place in a distant future, the characters’ humanity and inner conflicts are beautifully portrayed, making it a story that keeps you engaged until the end. I hope this work reaches many people!”

Coco

Karin Takahashi
■ Comment from Karin Takahashi (Voice of Coco)
“Coco is a clever and curious kaiju tamer who lives among the Aidara tribe. She’s a strong person who fulfills her mission while working together with the kaiju. At the same time, her moments of girlish innocence make her very endearing.
Maru and Coco come from completely different worlds, but through meeting each other, they learn, understand, and grow together. This story made me reflect deeply on what it means to live, and I feel it connects to our own world as well. I truly wish to see the continuation of this story.”
Story
In the year 2070, several space stations fell to Earth following a supernova explosion, causing catastrophic damage known as The Skyfall Catastrophe. The disaster brought an unknown type of bacteria from space that fused with Earth’s materials, creating new beings known as hyper-dimensional lifeforms.
To survive, humanity built The City—a society separated from the dangerous Zone where these lifeforms thrive. There, humans live free from the physical, mental, and temporal constraints of the past.
In contrast, Coco and the Aidara tribe remain in The Zone, coexisting with the kaiju. The story follows Maru, the boy from The City, and Coco, the girl from The Zone, as they search for a way for their worlds to live together.
