It has been reported by Weekly Bunshun that popular voice actor Toru Furuya (70) was involved in an affair with a non-celebrity woman. Following this report, Furuya updated his X (formerly Twitter) account to issue an apology, and his agency, Aoni Production, also apologized on their official website.

The article on Bunshun Online was titled, "Legendary Voice Actor Toru Furuya (70) Admits to a Four-and-a-Half-Year Affair, Pregnancy Termination, and Assault Incident with a Fan 37 Years His Junior in the Voice of Detective Conan's Popular Character Toru Amuro."

Furuya reported on X, "I, Toru Furuya, was interviewed by Weekly Bunshun. I have an apology and report regarding the significant wrongdoings I have committed. I was involved in an affair with a female fan for four and a half years until September of last year."

He further explained, "Drawn to her straightforward support, I foolishly initiated contact, and our relationship began. During our time together, there was one instance where a heated argument led to me raising my hand against her. This was a reprehensible act, both as an adult and as a human being."

"I also committed the unforgivable mistake of causing her to undergo a pregnancy termination. I am truly, deeply sorry for the severe emotional and physical harm I caused her. I cannot apologize enough for betraying the trust of my long-time supporters, disappointing, and hurting them, and tarnishing the characters I have voiced. I have also let down all involved parties and caused them great inconvenience."

"I am determined to atone for my actions with all my remaining life. I am ready to accept any punishment. I am deeply sorry."

Furuya is a well-known voice actor for many popular characters, including Toru Amuro in "Detective Conan," Sabo in "ONE PIECE," Amuro Ray in "Mobile Suit Gundam," and Hoshio Hyuma in "Star of the Giants."

Aoni Production also issued an apology on their official website.

"We are deeply grateful for your continued support. Regarding the recent reports about our actor Toru Furuya, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and concern caused to the fans who support us and the related parties."
