Behind the Return: Ranma ½ Season 2 Begins Airing in October

The beloved martial arts rom-com Ranma ½ is officially returning to Japanese television this October with its highly anticipated second season. Airing on Nippon TV, the new season features a nostalgic blend of legacy cast members and fresh voices. Among the most celebrated announcements is the return of Toshihiko Seki as Mousse—his role from the original 1989 anime adaptation.

The latest PV opens with a familiar line from Mousse, setting the stage for returning drama and hijinks. As the music shifts and tempo picks up, viewers catch glimpses of both classic and new characters in action-packed sequences.

The Legacy Continues: From Rumiko Takahashi’s Pages to Today’s Screens

Ranma ½, originally serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday between 1987 and 1996, is the brainchild of manga legend Rumiko Takahashi. The anime first aired from 1989 to 1992, spawning OVAs, films, and even a live-action adaptation starring Yui Aragaki in 2011. After 14 years without a new installment, the 2024–25 reboot marked a major revival of the franchise.

The recent announcement was made during the Great Joy Anime Presentation Event, where Kappei Yamaguchi (Ranma Saotome), Megumi Hayashibara (female Ranma), Noriko Hidaka (Akane Tendo), and Rei Sakuma (Shampoo) took the stage. A surprise guest appearance by Toshihiko Seki—whose voice as Mousse had already sparked speculation—brought roaring applause from fans. The event also featured an exclusive screening of Season 2’s “Episode 23A.”

With long-awaited answers and dynamic new visuals, Season 2 promises to reintroduce Ranma ½ to a new generation while delighting longtime fans with the familiar chaos and heart.
