A Star Brighter Than the Sun Anime Premieres This October: Teaser Visual, PV, and Cast Comments Revealed
The TV anime adaptation of A Star Brighter Than the Sun, based on the latest manga by Kazune Kawahara—best known for works like My Love Story!!, High School Debut, and My Teacher—will premiere on TBS this October. The teaser visual, promotional video, and comments from the two main cast members, Minori Fujidera and Yūki Ono, have been unveiled alongside the announcement.
Currently serialized in Bessatsu Margaret (Shueisha), the manga has surpassed 2.75 million copies in circulation. The story follows Sae Iwata, a slightly tougher-than-average girl, and Kōki Kamishiro, a delicate boy she fell for back in elementary school after being captivated by his smile. Over the years, Kōki transforms into a handsome and charming young man, becoming seemingly out of reach. But during their final sports festival in junior high, fate brings them together again, reigniting Sae’s long-hidden first love. This is a glittering story of heartfelt affection that shines no matter how far apart they seem.
The teaser visual shows Sae and Kōki sitting one desk apart in a classroom, gazing at each other with slightly bashful expressions—a design that encapsulates the gentle atmosphere of the story.
The teaser PV opens with Sae recalling her elementary school memories of Kōki—showing her as a large, spirited child and him as a frail boy. These scenes are layered with images of his current, more "prince-like" appearance. Sae, who once considered giving up her first love, listens to her heart and starts running toward Kōki again, beautifully depicted through vivid animation.

On the charm of the story:
“When I read the original manga, I was deeply moved by the warmth and brilliance of the world and its characters. Sae’s inner monologue is incredibly touching, capturing subtle emotional shifts. Her pure heart and sincerity make her feelings for Kōki deeply endearing—this is a story that makes you root for her with all your heart.”
On playing Sae:
“Sae’s words are full of kindness and empathy. Her emotions, her love of food, her facial expressions—all of it made me love her even more. I was still a high school student during recording, so I tried to portray her emotional nuances authentically and with great care.”

On the charm of the story:
“When I first read the manga, I was hooked immediately—so much so that I worried I’d spoil everything just by talking about it! The story’s immersive quality, Sae’s personality, her friends, and Kōki’s grounded yet radiant presence make you desperate to know what happens next.”
On playing Kōki:
“I actually lived in Sapporo during elementary school, and one of the locations in the story seems to be near where I used to live, which made me feel a personal connection. Kōki isn’t just a dazzling prince type—there’s more to him. I’ll do my best to deliver his youthful charm through my voice, even as I enter my 40s.”
