YOSHIKI Named to TIME100 as One of the World’s Most Influential People—First Japanese Musician in History

Renowned artist YOSHIKI, leader of legendary rock band X JAPAN, has been selected for the 2025 TIME100, the annual list published by TIME magazine recognizing the world’s most influential people. This marks the first time a Japanese musician has ever been included in the prestigious ranking.

YOSHIKI is celebrated for his genre-defying artistry, spanning roles as a composer, drummer, pianist, and fashion icon. His cross-border influence has shaped both the rock and classical worlds. He has performed solo classical concerts at iconic venues including Madison Square Garden (New York), Wembley Arena (London), and Carnegie Hall (New York)—becoming the first Asian artist to conquer all three legendary halls.

Recognized as an "Icon" for Artistic Impact and Humanitarian Work

In the 2025 TIME100 list, YOSHIKI is honored in the "Icons" category, a distinction reserved for figures who embody cultural and emotional significance. His profile on TIME’s official website was penned by close friend and artist Nicole Scherzinger, who described him as:

“A transcendent artist whose brilliance knows no boundaries—genre, culture, or nation. His music carries deep emotion, and his influence resonates worldwide. He is truly a legend.”

YOSHIKI’s recent contributions include the global premiere of his Hollywood directorial debut, YOSHIKI: UNDER THE SKY, and the launch of his luxury fashion label MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS, which made headlines at Milan and Paris Fashion Week.

A Charitable Legacy That Matches His Artistry

Beyond music and fashion, YOSHIKI is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts. In January 2025, he donated approximately 77 million yen (about $520,000 USD) to aid victims of a massive wildfire in Los Angeles. TIME noted,

“His kindness deserves praise equal to his artistry. YOSHIKI is an enduring source of inspiration.”

Through his U.S.-based nonprofit YOSHIKI FOUNDATION AMERICA, he has made long-standing contributions to disaster relief, humanitarian support, and medical aid in Japan and across the globe.
