At the 30th Annual AMD Awards, held on the 25th in Tokyo, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle received an Excellence Award in recognition of its outstanding contribution to digital content and entertainment. The awards, hosted by the Association of Media in Digital (AMD), honor creators who excel in digital media.

A Powerful Cinematic Adaptation of a Beloved Rivalry

Released in February 2023, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle is a theatrical adaptation of the immensely popular manga Haikyu!! by Haruichi Furudate, which has sold over 70 million copies across 45 volumes. The film dramatizes one of the manga’s most beloved arcs: the fierce showdown between Karasuno High and Nekoma High—dubbed “The Dumpster Battle.”

The selection committee praised the film for its dynamic camera work and immersive sound design, which vividly captured the intensity of this iconic match. Despite high expectations from long-time fans, the film exceeded them and achieved massive box office success—earning over 11.6 billion yen in Japan and surpassing 20 billion yen globally. It also won top honors in the Yahoo! Japan Awards movie category and was named Best Animated Feature at the 48th Japan Academy Film Prize, making it one of the standout works of 2024.
